The Holidays are always one time of the year where family photos are a must. Not often does everyone get all dolled up at the same time and ready to put a smile on their face for hopefully a good half hour or until you get the best shot. 😉This special time when everyone is together is always a memory to cherish! Sometimes the task itself can be stressful but it always seems to get done one way or another.
One particular question that is always asked is… what is everyone going to wear!? I’m excited to share some outfit ideas for your family photos this year and tips on how to decide what to wear. My hope is to ease up a little bit of the stress around family photos. 😊
When deciding what everyone will wear the first thing to ask is what is the overall theme you want for your photos? Do you want them outside or inside? And do you want dressy, casual or something fun like matching pajamas? Photos taken outside are always my favorite. I love natural lighting and doing them outside gives that wintery feel! Dressy or casual works outside just make sure your color scheme is complementing the background and not competing with it! If you are taking them inside matching pajamas are always so cute by the tree or staircase.
Second question to ask yourself is what color scheme do you want? Do you want a winter red with dark gray and black or do you want to go with the brighter red with a cream and lighter gray. You could also go the neutral or forest green route too. Whichever you decide, make sure to mix and match the colors and patterns so everyone isn’t wearing the same thing (unless you want siblings to match). You can still get a cohesive look and the different items can compliment each other.
Must be Comfortable
Wearing something comfortable is so important! Especially with the kiddos who you may have a hard time getting to smile anyway. Wear something that you won’t feel like you have to force a smile in and make sure your little one or ones has something that will give them some breathing room and keep them warm!
Planning ahead takes out some of the stress the day of. Lay everyones outfits out ahead of time to make sure they all go together and if you need to make any changes!
Since it is a rarity that Kyle, Sophie and I are all in the same picture we did some casual and dressier photos. I will most likely be wearing my red dress to our Christmas Eve church service as well! If you follow me on instagram you saw all the family photo bloopers and how Sophie was majority of the shoot (hence why she is holding keys - she wouldn’t let them go without throwing a full on temper tantrum lol). Below is a roundup of what we wore and some extra outfit ideas as well! If you end up wearing any of them I would love to see your family photos!! I hope everyone has a wonderful thanksgiving!
